Gasoline Engines

As we know driving a car is something that takes some practice but many of us seldom think about what takes place under the hood of a car. At present there are 3 types of car engines. These engine types are electric combustion engines, diesel and the gasoline engines. There is another name that gasoline engines are known by.

The other name is that of a petrol engine. Besides the name difference in these car engines there are other differences that extend beyond that of the name. One way to illustrate this fact is to mention the way that the engine works. As some of us know the diesel engine works by making the air which enters the engine become compressed. The fuel is then injected towards the end of the compression stroke.

In the gasoline engine the air and the fuel is mixed first. The spark plugs which are found within the engine cause an ignition reaction due to the presence of the compressed air and the fuel. As a result of this pre-mixing the gasoline engines allow the cars to run at speeds which are significantly higher than what you will find in diesel cars.

You will come to learn that besides being used to power cars the gasoline engines can be used for other uses. The products which use this type of engine are electric generators, cars, lawn mowers, aircrafts, motorcycles, chainsaws, and motor powered boats.

These gasoline engines are arranged into two different styles. You can find a two stroke engine and that of a four stroke engine. Additionally you will find that gasoline engines are used in the Wankel engine. The cooling of these engines is accomplished by the cylinder fins. This cooling is called air-cooling.

It can also be cooled by the water jacket and the radiator. This cooling provides a liquid cooling. The coolant which is found in the engine is that of a mixture of ethylene glycol and water. This is the mixture which replaced water as this substance mixture has a higher boiling point and a lower freezing temperature than that of pure water.

While gasoline engines are being given new improvements there is still the concerns of pollution entering the environment via the release of the fuel from the exhaust pipe. To prevent this possibility from occurring further many cars are being provided with an alternative route to powering the car engine.

The exact future of gasoline engines is uncertain. At the moment however you can still find many cars being powered by these engines. For those of you who are not too sure of using these engines due to the pollution factor can look at the alternatives. It is still best to not entirely wipe gasoline engines out of the factor as perhaps some innovative person will make a design which will eliminate pollution from the gasoline engines forever.
